Lake Superior Heritage Highways |
|
Lake Superior Heritage Highways (LSHH) is a Wisconsin Heritage Tourism site, sponsored by the Northern Wisconsin Heritage Connection and the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. This project area highlights the cultural history of the region. Tracing the Lake Superior shoreline, it encompasses a 90-mile corridor along Lake Superior, plus the inland areas, rich in mining, lumbering, farming and maritime history. Ethnic settlement in this region is diverse, which is another source of the region's history. LSHH promotes heritage sites, attractions, and facilities located in counties along the Lake - Douglas, Bayfield, and Ashland Counties. LSHH also conducts an Oral History Program, providing each participating community with a valuable heritage resource. An audio tape is available for the Heritage Highways driving tour. It includes historical vignettes of Bayfield and the communities of the south shore on State Highway 13 as well as the history of communities along U.S. Highway 2, on the round trip from Superior to Hurley or from Hurley to Superior. The narrator points out historical places of interest and relates the history and stories connected to each area as you pass through. To purchase this audio driving tape, send $8.00 plus $2.00 S&H to the Heritage Connection, Box 347, Ashland, WI 54806. |
